Heartbreaking Update on Cargo Plane Incident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The tally of lives lost from the freight aircraft which ignited and crashed has reached 13, according to recent reports.

City Leader's Remarks

Traveling to the Teamsters’ vigil, I received word of a thirteenth victim that died as a consequence of the plane incident,” wrote the local official in a social media post. “My prayers is with the relatives, associates and co-workers of all who were killed in this recent calamity. We will endure this as one.”

Deceased Identified

A release from the company named the pilots on board the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to all UPSer who has been touched and all in our local area – assisting you and ensuring you receive the attention and aid you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message stated.

Investigation Details

Government investigators revealed that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing burst into flames and an power plant fell off just after takeoff from the aviation hub, causing the jet to crash and erupt into a blaze.

The safety agency has said it is probing the plane’s service record, that was in Texas for repairs weeks ahead of the incident.

Flight tracking information revealed the plane was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are aware that this aircraft was present in the facility,” remarked an NTSB member on Thursday, not giving a specific date range. “We will review all elements of repairs that was completed, even the San Antonio period, straight to the date of the trip.”

Retrieval of Key Items

The audio device and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the power plant was discovered on the airfield.

The devices – known as black boxes – were designed to survive crash impacts and extreme temperatures from blazes, and they looked to be undamaged when discovered within the wreckage. Investigators plan on reviewing information from the black boxes.

The plane’s final flight details displayed an altitude of 475 ft and a rate of 210 mph before the impact.

Service Background

Per FAA files from last month, a crack on a part in the center wing fuel tank needed fixes.

The company ST Engineering, which indicated it provides airframe maintenance for the company’s MD-11 and runs a repair facility in San Antonio, declined to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities contacted it.

Services Continue

At the same time, UPS Worldport operations continued Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or evening operation, spokesperson a representative said. Each of the three tarmacs at the airport were also open again.

The sorting center in this location is the firm’s most significant. The facility engages more than 20,000 individuals in the locality, handles three hundred aircraft per day and organizes more than 400,000 items per hour.

Public Reaction

A memorial was held on the evening of that date by the local worker’s group, which acts for staff at the Louisville airport, the organization’s largest shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the vigil with a moment of silence at that time, the estimated time of the incident before.

“This tragedy was so sudden, so surprising,” the official addressed the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any of those who we have lost.”
